What’s New at Grove Music Online
Over the summer, several new additions have expanded Grove Music Online including 88 new articles, the first installment of from the forthcoming second edition of the Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments, and 190 articles from the Grove Dictionary of American Music. - Detailed composers’ works lists make excellent material for research projects.
- Grove Music Online includes Music Timelines that provide a concise history of several subjects in music such as Women in Music.
CultureGrams Updates
CultureGrams has released its Fall 2011 update of all editions. On top of statistical and general updates to every text, there are new photos, slideshows, and a few key mentions:
* WORLD TEXTS. Antarctica, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands have been added since last Fall. Turns out Antarctica has 40 different permanent research stations!
* MAPS. Check out the new GeoAtlas physical and political maps, conveniently located in a drop-down box on each country home page!
* EXPANSIONS. Explore some of the 50+expanded CultureGrams texts, where our unique culturally-focused content has been increased by 50 percent. Many, many more are in development.
* KIDS TEXTS. Find 10 new and 17 expanded Kids texts! Great for English Language Learners of all ages.
* INTERVIEWS. Of kids and adults–more than 217 from 96 countries.
7. Need Some Luck This Summer?
Stop by at the library, pick up some good reading for yourself, your children, or your family and don’t forget to grab a library fortune cookie. We have them in different flavors, including coconut, orange, lemon, grape, cherry and coffee. Oh, yes, and get a scented bookmark or a scented pencil with it!
8. Taking Summer Classes? Check Out a Laptop and Study in the Great Outdoors!
Improve your productivity by borrowing our laptops. The library has twenty laptop computers available for use by currently enrolled students. To check out a laptop students must:
- have completed their first semester of classes,
- have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5,
- have a recommendation from an Ivy Tech Northeast faculty member in whose class they are currently enrolled,
- have no outstanding fines or overdue materials from the Ivy Tech Northeast library.
9. Planning a Road Trip?
Borrow one of our iPods and upload your favorite music and audio books. The FM Transmitter included in the kit allows you to listen to the iPod via your car radio. To check out an iPod students must:
- Present a current Ivy Tech ID
- Be currently enrolled in Ivy Tech courses
- Have no outstanding fines or overdue materials from the Ivy Tech Northeast library.
10. Wind Down in the Library’s Reading Area
Take a break between classes. Drop by the library, find a comfy chair and read your favorite daily newspaper or recent magazine, such as Sports Illustrated, O, Essence, National Geographic, Martha Stewart’s Living and many more.
